News from the "Seventy"

The Gospel of Luke testifies that Jesus "appointed other Seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face, into every city and place where he himself would come.  And he said unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest…"

The Seventy of the Restoration pledge before God and man their willingness to labor in the harvest field, for the Lord of the harvest. Many have responded to the Lord's calling to act as especial witness of Jesus Christ. To learn more about the restoration Seventy, visit their website.

Our congregation has two members of the "seventy," George Knotts and Ron Smith:

George has a far reaching prayer ministry and provides ministry to the Cherokee in Oklahoma and other places in the United States. His sacred cartoons are available all over the world ("a drop of ink to make you think"), and his "what's your heart desire" program is used as a faith developer by many. George loves to share his testimony about the Lord, and teaches that all Christians should have a two- minute testimony ready to share with anyone they chance to meet. George and wife Beth live in Lamoni, Iowa where George is an artist and sculptor, often found creating Kansas University bronzes for fans throughout the U.S.

Ron travels annually outside the U.S., taking the message of "Kingdom of God" to those around the world. Ron has taken the gospel to Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Liberia, Nepal, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, the Navaho Nation, and the United States. He has published a booklet on the Kingdom of God, which can be read by visiting his web site. Ron teaches a young inquirier's Sunday school class in Mount Ayr, as well as preaching and teaching throughout the midwestern United States. Ron and wife Di live in Lamoni, Iowa where Ron is a professor in the Mathematics Department at Graceland University.

About the Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE)

The Coordinating Council believes the Conference exists to:

  1. Organize the coming together of Melchesidec priesthood, as well as the Aaronic priesthood and members, for:
    • Spiritual preparation and to unify our efforts on behalf of the work to which we are called.
    • Much needed fellowship and fraternity to prepare us to defend and preserve the faith.
    • Identify and seek divine guidance concerning the critical issues now confronting the church.
    • "Chart a course of action that will maintain the gospel as restored in 1830" (Original Letter of Invitation and 1993 Conference Materials).
  2. Support the branches in their efforts to work together.
  3. Provide needed resources to branches and members as they are requested.
  4. Offer support and resources to the priesthood—enabling them to perform the ministry in their office and calling.
  5. And finally, to offer encouragement, support and leadership to the other Councils within the Conference as we meet together and as these Councils reach out to support and coordinate Kingdom-building and missionary efforts with other Restoration related organizations.

For more information about the CRE, visit their web site at: www.eldersconference.org/default.asp.
